In 2009, Blood Assurance held the largest community blood drive in the history of Chattanooga. The event, known as Bloodanooga, was created to raise awareness of the constant need for blood donations in our area.
More than 1,000 people came through the doors of the UTC McKenzie Arena to donate blood and/or join the national marrow donor registry. For more information on this program, please visit www.marrow.org.
This year, our goal is to collect 1,000 blood donations which will be used to supply our area hospitals. Volunteer blood donations, not paid blood collections, are the only source of blood for patients in the Chattanooga area.
Join us on Tuesday, March 30 from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. for
Chattanooga's 2nd Annual Bloodanooga at the UTC McKenzie Arena.
So why should I
give blood, anyway?
So why should I give blood, anyway?
Aside from the fact that it takes 400 blood donors each day to meet the needs of our service region, there's a 95% chance that you will need blood by the age of 72.
Volunteer blood donors, not paid blood donors, supply local hospitals with blood products.
It's healthy for you! Giving blood is safe, and it's one way to give back to your community.
What's next?
Make an appointment by clicking the button on the left. Choose "Chattanooga" for the facility and "March 30" as the date. Then select the most convenient time between 11 a.m. and 10 p.m.
Be sure to eat a meal that's rich in iron prior to donating. Drink plenty of water and avoid caffeine.
Donors must be at least 17 years old, or 16 years old with parental consent. You also have to weigh at least 110lbs and be in good general health.
You're in great hands with the staff at Blood Assurance. Before donating, you'll undergo a mini-physical and health questionnaire to determine whether or not you're eligible to donate. It's also a good idea to continue drinking water up until your donation, so feel free to ask for a bottled water

Now what?
Congratulations! Your one blood donation will be used to save up to 3 lives. Sit back, relax, enjoy a snack and t-shirt. It's on us! You can also register to win our latest giveaway while you're there.
Not finished saving lives?
Neither are we! While you're there, register for the Be The Match registry. All it takes is a cheek swab and you'll be placed on a registry which matches potential donors with patients in need of a life-saving marrow transplant. Unlike previous methods of donating bone marrow, the most common process for donating is similar to that of a blood donation, calledPBSC. It's an outpatient procedure and just a few hours of your time could make all the difference for someone in need.

One donation
saves 3 lives?!
In addition to saving lives through your blood donation, you'll also be able to join the Be The Match Registry at Bloodanooga.
This registry matches potential donors with patients in need of a life-saving marrow transplant.
Blood Assurance has been a member of the Be The Match Registry (formerly NMDP) since 1993.
Potential donors must be between the ages of 18 and 60 years old and meet health guidelines.
A swab sample of cheek cells is taken and tested to determine the donors's tissue type. Potential donors must also complete a brief health history questionnaire and sign a consent form to have their tissue type listed on the Registry.
